FAQ

What can I expect during the first session?

At your first appointment, we will spend some time discussing confidentiality and informed consent. You will then have the opportunity to tell me about yourself and what has lead you to reach out for support. I may ask you for additional details about your life. Hearing your story and background will help me acquire a better understanding of how best to support you in achieving your goals. Please know that it is very common for clients to feel nervous before the initial session. I will try my best to help you feel safe and comfortable.

Are your services confidential?

As a Registered Psychologist, I adhere to the standards for confidentiality set out by the College of Alberta Psychologists. This means that any information that you provide in session will remain strictly confidential. There are a few exceptions to this rule that we will discuss in detail during the first session.

What is the duration of a counseling session?

A typical counselling session is 50 minutes, unless other arrangements have been made. This leaves me 10 minutes to write notes afterwards.

How many sessions will I need?

The duration of therapy depends on a variety of factors, such as the issues you are coming to see me for, your needs, and your goals. Some people start to notice positive changes in 4-6 sessions, but for others it may take longer. In general, we will both usually know when therapy is no longer needed.
